Antivir 9 not updating windows firewall

15-Jul-2017 11:17

This was to have been some sort of immediate follow-up update. I tried the Fusebundle ("Manual Update Tool") and while that works it's highly undesirable to download over 200 MB daily just to update. Restarted the computer, and manually removed all leftover files and registry settings associated with Avira that I could find. Installed a fresh copy of Avira Free Antivirus, and it still fails to update.

What I've did (which did not fix the issue): 1. This all started within the past two weeks, the errors in the logs are constantly changing, sometimes the log is huge and other times it's very brief.

Somewhere around 4 or 5 years ago, a similar event happened and I became so frustrated after trying to get past this sort of update snafu that I just chucked Avira for a year.

Yes, I understand that Avira needs to make money, but purposefully annoying the user in an attempt to make him pay to remove the annoyance is a poor business model indeed.

I think the free version of Anti Vir is terrific, and I applaud the company for releasing a free version.

Microsoft is conducting an online survey to understand your opinion of the Technet Web site.

If you choose to participate, the online survey will be presented to you when you leave the Technet Web site.

In a previous article, I mentioned how to block the annoying popup ad that spawns whenever the free edition of Anti Vir updates.
